Amara Raja Energy & Mobility (ARE&M), a leader in battery solutions, has partnered with IIT Tirupati to establish the Dr. RN Galla Visiting Chair Professorship in Advanced Energy Storage Technologies, set to begin in 2025. This initiative, backed by ARE&M, aims to honor their Founding Chairman, Dr. Ramachandra Naidu Galla, by recognizing outstanding global faculty and scientists in the energy storage field and supporting their research and scholarly work.
The agreement was announced during an event at IIT Tirupati, attended by notable figures such as Shri Jayadev Galla, Chairman and Managing Director of ARE&M, Sajjan Jindal, Chairman of BoG at IIT Tirupati, Sri Kris Gopalakrishnan, Chairman of Axilor Ventures and Co-founder of Infosys, and Dr. Ramadevei Gourineni. The initiative highlights the strong commitment of ARE&M to sustainable energy solutions and its dedication to fostering academic excellence and innovation.
The Visiting Chair Professorship will span a decade from 2025, allowing awardees to spend up to eight weeks annually at IIT Tirupati. During their tenure, they will deliver lectures, conduct workshops, and foster research collaborations within the institution. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the academic experiences of students and bolster IIT Tirupati’s reputation in the energy storage domain.
ARE&M’s commitment to sustainable energy is further evidenced by its recent announcement to build one of India’s largest Giga factories for Lithium-ion cell and battery pack manufacturing in Telangana, with an investment of INR 9,500 crores. The first phase of the factory is expected to become operational this year. Additionally, ARE&M plans to establish ‘ePositive Energy Labs,’ an innovation and research hub dedicated to advancing R&D in energy storage.
